Having travelled to Malta recently as a guest of VisitMalta, supported by Aer Lingus and Marriott International, below are my thoughts on the island, along with personal tips on the things to do when you visit there.
First and foremost, our trip focused on culture and adventure, showing off the best of this must-visit destination.
Trip Highlights
One of the highlights was taking the Gozo Channel Ferry from Cirkewwa to Mgarr, visiting Gozo, Malta’s sister island. The journey was short, easy, and very scenic.
In Gozo, we visited Ramla Bay, famous for its red sand. It’s a perfect place to swim, relax, and enjoy the sun.
We also explored the Citadel of Victoria and the capital, Victoria. After that, we had a beautiful picnic at the Qbajjar Salt Pans, which was a very special experience.
We finished the day with a visit to Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary, a peaceful and quiet place.
My Personal Highlight
The Blue Grotto!

The view from the Blue Grotto was breathtaking.
It felt calm and almost sacred.
Swimming is not allowed there to protect nature, which makes it even more special. You can also take a traditional boat trip, which is a great experience.
Food
Food in Malta is amazing. I highly recommend trying pastizzi with ricotta,it’s a local favourite and very affordable. For seafood lovers, the octopus stew in Marsaxlokk is a must-try.
Accommodation
We stayed at the Malta Marriott Hotel & Spa in St. Julian’s. It’s a 5-star hotel with a great location, very clean, and with beautiful sea views.
The food was also excellent, especially the focaccia and Octopus dishes at the Atrio Bar.
Travel Tips
Best Time To Travel
The best time to visit Malta is April to June and September to October, when the weather is warm but not too hot. July and August can be very hot.
Must Visits
I recommend booking with a travel agent or guide, as they can share and book hidden places like the Ġgantija Archaeological Park, which is even older than Stonehenge.
For something fun, you can also try Rolling Geeks Malta in Birgu.
Final Thoughts
Malta is truly a special destination.
As I said after the trip, “it’s a place I would love to share one day with my future kids.”
From movie locations like Troy and Game of Thrones in Mdina, to places like Popeye Village in Mellieħa, Malta has so much to offer.
To wrap up, Malta is beautiful views, rich history, and amazing food, and it’s a destination I would highly recommend for your next trip.
