As a travel agent, I’m often asked what it’s really like to sail on one of the world’s largest cruise ships. Recently, I had the opportunity to experience Royal Caribbean’s  Harmony of the Seas for myself on a 7-night Western Mediterranean cruise sailing from Barcelona.

Our group included a mix of teenagers, adults, and my 83-year-old mum who uses a wheelchair, which gave us a great opportunity to see how the ship worked for travellers of different ages and needs.

And on thing became clear very quickly – Harmony of the Seas is designed to offer something for almost everyone.

First Impressions

The scale of the ship is truly remarkable. Following a recent multi-million-dollar refurbishment, Harmony of the Seas offers an incredible range of facilities, from pools and waterslides to theatres, restaurants, entertainment venues and family activities.

It’s less like a traditional cruise ship and more like a floating resort.

At times, it can take a little while to find your bearings, but exploring the different neighbourhoods quickly becomes part of the fun. If you’re someone who likes to stay active on holiday, you’ll certainly get your steps in.

Harmony of the Seas

A Great Choice for Families

What impressed me most was how well the ship catered for different generations travelling together.

As mentioned before, our group ranged from teenagers to my mum in her eighties, and everyone found something they enjoyed. Whether it was the entertainment, the dining options, relaxing with a drink, or simply exploring the ship, there was always something happening.

For families trying to find a holiday that keeps everyone happy, that’s often one of the biggest challenges, and Harmony of the Seas does a very good job of solving it.

Exceptional Service

One area where the ship really stood out was the crew.

Whenever we needed assistance, staff were approachable, friendly and eager to help and this was especially noticeable when we had any questions around wheelchair access.

We found accessible seating available in the theatre and felt welcomed throughout the ship. And while navigating a ship of this size can present some challenges, the crew were always willing to assist when needed.

Catering for Dietary Requirements

Another standout feature was the attention given to guests with food allergies or special dietary requirements.

Passengers can discuss their needs with the dining team and even pre-order meals for the following day. For anyone concerned about managing allergies while travelling, this level of care provides valuable reassurance.

Easy Sailing from Barcelona

Barcelona continues to be one of my favourite cruise departure ports.

The port is conveniently located around 30 minutes from the airport, making embarkation straightforward and stress-free. If you’re considering your first cruise, sailing from Barcelona is one of the easiest ways to get started.

Exploring Beyond the Ship

While Harmony of the Seas offers plenty onboard, we also enjoyed going ashore and exploring some beautiful destinations.

During our cruise, we arranged private excursions, including visits to Puerto de Sóller and Aix-en-Provence. One of the highlights was spending time on the water in Puerto de Sóller, while the bustling markets in Aix provided a wonderful glimpse of local life.

These experiences are a reminder that cruising allows you to combine the convenience of unpacking once with the opportunity to discover multiple destinations during a single holiday.

My Overall Thoughts

Harmony of the Seas is a lively, resort-style cruise experience with an enormous choice of activities, dining and entertainment.

Personally, I tend to prefer smaller ships and a quieter atmosphere, but that’s exactly why cruising offers something for everyone. What suits one traveller may not suit another, and this sailing reinforced the importance of matching clients with the cruise experience that’s right for them.

For families, groups of friends, and multi-generational holidays, I can absolutely see the appeal of Harmony of the Seas. The variety of facilities, excellent crew, wide choice of dining and entertainment, and family-friendly atmosphere make it a fantastic option for travellers looking for a holiday where everyone can find something they enjoy.

If you’re considering a cruise and aren’t sure which style of ship would suit you best, get in touch as we’d be delighted to help you find the right fit.
